Day 1 in St. Petersburg

I had a very easy day walking around St. Petersburg since most museums close on Monday. I visited Kazan Cathedral, Mikhailovsky Garden, Summer Garden, Peter & Paul fortress,  Saint Petersburg Mosque, Vassili island ancient beacon port, and Strelka Vasil'yevskogo Ostrova.

Kazan Cathedral has Impressive neoclassical exterior, richly decorated interior, and it Includes the tomb of Gen. Kutuzov, hero of the war of 1812. The Summer Garden is a historic public garden that occupies an eponymous island with a lot of water fountains in downtown Saint Petersburg. The Peter and Paul Fortress is a star fortress and the original citadel of Saint Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great in 1703. It served as a prison for political criminals. The Saint Petersburg Mosque was the largest mosque in Europe outside Turkey.  Rumyantsevsky Park and Obelisk was moved here from Mars Field in honor of Count Peter Rumyantsev's victory in the Russo-Turkish War of 1791.
