Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟)
I teamed up with a young couple staying in the same hotel to tour Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟) Valley for 10-hr today, and we barely finished it. It is located to the north of Chengdu and is famous for its stunning nature and the cyan water terraces.
Jiuzhaigou is an UNESCO site and takes its name from the nine Tibetan villages along its length. Local fauna includes the endangered giant panda and golden snub-nosed monkey, but I only saw some birds. It has dreamlike scenery, which combines blue lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests, snow-covered mountains, and the folk customs of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples. Local Tibetan people call the lakes “Haizi” in Chinese.
I walked 12 km today, and had yak rice noodles 牦牛米粉 for dinner.
