Day 3 in Yangshuo 阳朔

Instead of taking a private bamboo raft, I planned to hike from Yangdi Wharf 杨堤碼頭 to Xingping Ancient Town 兴坪古镇 about 20 kilometers in total and takes 4-5 hours. I couldn’t find hiking pals on the Little Red Book site 小红書, so I did it myself.

I walked 2.2 km from the hostel to Yangshuo Bus Terminal to take a bus to Yangdi Wharf, then started walking after taking a ferry draft across Yangdi Wharf. I walked about 3 miles then got stuck at Langshi Village 浪石,since the private ferry raft was banned by the government for the river bank construction. It managed to get a ride from a construction truck to about 3 km from Xingping Ancient Town, then walked there, toured the Town, walked 10 km round trip to , 20 yuan scenic spot 20元人民币图案的元宝山, Huangbu Reflection 黄布倒影, and Jiuma Painting Mountain 九马画山. I then walked to the local bus terminal to ride a bus to Yangshuo rail station to go back to Nanning via two high speed trains. It was a long and hot day.

The planned route includes Yangdi Wharf, Shuiyantou Village, Langshi Village, Quanjiazhou Village, Lengshui Village, Lengfeng Ferry, 20 yuan scenic spot, and finally arrives at Xingping Ancient Town. It requires paying for three river crossings during the hike. There are multiple supply points along the way. Unfortunately, I had to skip the middle section due to the ban of one ferry raft.

Yangdi is the water gateway of Yangshuo and the first scenic spot after the Li River flows into Yangshuo. Although it is a small town, the mountain shape is very different from that of Guilin. The mountain shape is abrupt and each has its own style. The mountain is no longer exposed, and the vegetation is covered with green shade. The reflection in the river is even more intoxicating.

From Xiangba Island, Xiushan Colored Wall, Banbiandu to Moonlight Island, Langshi, Shanglong and Xialong, there are dense scenic spots, one after another, which are dazzling. People call Yangdi the golden waterway that never dries up on the Li River.

Xingping Town has more than 20 scenic spots such as Jiuma Painting Mountain, Luosi Mountain, Lianhua Rock, Tianshui Village, Lingbao Pavilion, Xingping Ancient Street, Laozhaishan Friendship Pavilion, President Fishing Village, Huangbu Beach, Luotian Dayan, Xitang Tianhu, Songping Dragon, Tengjiao Temple, Dayuan Forest Farm, Dahebei Scenery, etc. There are many cultural relics and historical sites in the ancient town, including bluestone slabs, Tang and Song stage, Ming and Qing buildings, Xiping County ruins, and temple ruins, which are still well preserved. Xingping Ancient Street is a bluestone road of only more than 1 km long. It runs from the southeast of Xingping Ancient Town to the Lijiang Rongshutan and Gudu Wharf. Most of the brick and tile ancient buildings on both sides of the ancient street are well preserved, full of cultural charm and strong humanistic atmosphere.
