Day 6 in St. Petersburg

Image
I walked 2.6 km to check out another creative space loft Etagi @ Ligovskiy prospekt; 74. I had to ask around to find the exact location. It is relatively small, and most artists were not there on Saturday morning.  I then walked 2.8 in to Alexander Nevsky Lavra (2.8 km), aka Alexander Nevskiy Monastery with Tikhvin Cemetery which houses the tombs of some of the world's most famous composers; Tschaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky and Borodin, and also the author Fyodor Dostoevsky, along with many other famous Russian figures. I walked another 2 km to the art center Pushkinskaya-10 which is a point of interest for local and international artists and collectives. The art center has a total area of over 4 500 sq. as the home to a museum, archive, galleries, clubs, studios of artists and musicians, an international residency program, and other creative spaces. I was there for John Lenons Street museum. This unique little spot was started by a devoted Beatles fan named Nikolai Vasin

Smolensk orthodox cemetery

I saw Smolensk orthodox cemetery on the way and made a small detour into the oldest continuously operating cemetery in Saint Petersburg. It occupies a rectangular parcel in the western part of Vasilievsky Island, on the bank of the small Smolenka River, and is divided into the Orthodox, Lutheran, and Armenian sections. It includes the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. I saw devout natives, who come to kiss the walls of the Chapel to Ksenia of Petersburg and lay flowers on the graves of the cemetery's most famous occupants. It's a tranquil and beautifully kept corner of the city.

Day 5 in St. Petersburg

It was a pleasantly productive day.  I walked 3 km to check out the street art gallery on painted walls, garages, or even roofs. @ Kamennoostrovsky Ave, 26-28, St Petersburg. It was buried in an enclosed yard surrounded by building, but I found it.  My 2nd walk to Artmuza @ 13-Ya Liniya Vasil'yevskogo Ostrova, 70, St Petersburg was 4 km. The gallery was hosted in a 3-floor Restored factory featuring modern art, a theater, workshops & cultural events. My 3rd walk to Sevcabel port @ Kozhevennaya Liniya, 40, St Petersburg was 3.5 km. It is a public space for culture and business (food, souvenirs and crafts), created as a result of the reorganization of the industrial "Grey Belt" of Vasilyevsky Island harbour in Saint Petersburg. I saw beautiful views of bridges and waves of the Gulf of Finland. It was the longest walk of the day and I finished cookies, so I got food from a supermarket on the way.  My 4th walk to the new holland island (aka Admiralty Island) was 4.5 km.
